Dave Elkington Discusses the Power of Philanthropy on Salesforce LIVE

While it’s primarily focused on cloud technologies and customer success, it also champions philanthropic initiatives.

Naomi Morenzoni, director of philanthropy outreach and engagement at Salesforce, sat down with XANT CEO Dave Elkington and Karen Smith, general counsel for Twilio, to see how these organizations have adopted the Salesforce Foundation 1% Pledge.

Naomi explained the benefits of corporate philanthropy, citing a number of statistics that show just how important it can be.

For example:

  • 85% of employees have a more positive view of a company or product if it’s engaged with a cause they care about.
  • Companies with corporate citizenship models have 2.3 times better employee retention and increase new hire commitment by 29%.
  • Millennials who participate in workplace volunteering are 2 times as likely to rate their company’s culture as positive.

Dave was quick to point out that while these are encouraging numbers, companies shouldn’t be looking to adopt philanthropic initiatives simply to improve their bottom line.

Dave said that organizations need to be very authentic and genuine when building a corporate citizenship model. If that’s the case, they’ll also attract candidates who align better with the company’s values.

During the interview, Dave also had a chance to highlight the XANT Do Good Foundation.

He mentioned a couple of our recent initiatives, including the support of a local women’s shelter in Utah, and sponsoring a coding camp for girls.
